Make a Vinegar & Water Cleaning Solution
If you don’t have a pet stain remover on hand, you can create a natural alternative using water and vinegar. Vinegar is non-toxic, does not leave behind residue and neutralizes the ammonia in urine that causes odors. All you need to do is mix equal parts of warm water and vinegar in a spray bottle.
Clean Up Stains As Soon As Possible
The longer urine sits on the carpet, the more likely it is to sink in and penetrate the carpet pad underneath, making it more difficult to get rid of the smell and any discoloration. Use a towel or paper towels to blot and absorb as much urine as possible.
Don’t Rub While Cleaning
Be sure you are blotting and not rubbing when cleaning up stains. Rubbing will spread the stain rather than absorb it. Absorb as much of the urine as possible before using a cleaning solution. If it’s a larger stain, you may need to do the blotting process a couple of times with different towels before they start coming away dry.
